Department
of Endocrine and Diabetes
|

The division provides a wide range of specialized services for
patients with endocrine problems. Endocrine pathology includes:
|
- Pituitary
gland : Hypopituitarism, functioning pituitary tumors, diabetes
insepidus.
|
- Thyroid
gland: Hypothyroidism,
hyperthyroidism, thyroiditis, benign diffuse or nodular goiters, cancers
of the thyroid gland.
|
- Parathyroid
glands: Hypoparathyroidism,
parathyroid glands tumors or hyperplasia, and pathology of calcium
homeostasis, metabolic bone disorders including osteoporosis.
|
- Pancreas:
Diabetes
mellitus: The division provides specialized services for diabetics,
using a systemic approach for care of diabetic patients according to the
latest recommendations of the ADA, IDF, and national guidelines.

Functioning
islet cell tumors.
|
- Adrenal
glands: Addison’s
disease, functioning adrenal tumors, congenital adrenal hyperplasia.
|
- Gonads:
Ovaries
and testis: Including, functional pathology and tumors of the gonads.
|
- Lipid
disorders: Screening
and treatment for lipid abnormalities (hypercholesterolemia,
hypertrigleceridemia, etc.)
- AL
BASHIR HOSPITAL is the only center in Jordan where patients with
familial homozygous hypercholesterolemia (FHH) can get specialized
treatment, using plasmapheresis (the only available mode of treatment
for FHH patients), under supervision of specialized personnel.

- Eating
disorders: Obesity
and anorexia nervosa.
|

are 4 endocrinologists among the endocrine team.

Services
are provided to inpatients in the internal medicine department (90
beds), and consultations for patients in the various hospital
departments.

In
the outpatient Department, there are 2 running endocrine clinics
daily, receiving referrals from all over the Country.

Our
team participates in teaching programs for Medical Students,
Interns, Residents.

Dynamic
diagnostic tests for the integrity of hypothalamic pituitary endocrine
glands. Fine needle aspiration biopsies for cytology study of thyroid
gland nodules.

endocrine team relies on wide range of services provided by other
departments in the hospital, including

laboratory for hormonal assay, directed by a Specialist in the field
of hormonal assays and an experienced team of Technicians.

Nuclear
Medicine Department- diagnostic studies and treatment for thyroid
problems, MIBG, DEXA-scan, SistaMIBI, bone scan.

Radiology
Department: MRI, MRA, CT SCAN, Spiral CT, ultrasounic and duplex
appartura, X ray studies.

Specialized
teams in other divisions of Internal Medicine Department: including:
Cardiologists, Pulmunologists, Gastroenterologists, Nephrologists,
Neurologists, Rheumatologists, Hematologists, and Psychiatrists.

Surgical,
ENT, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pediatric, Dermatology, Orthopedic
and Pharmacy Departments.
